With a name like the Rice Rockettes, you would think that they would do something of cancan or kick style of dancing, but no. They were a very entertaining drag troupe, but not a Rockettes-style drag troupe. Instead the emphasis was on the pun of rice rocket, in that all the cast members are Asian. They did have some very appealing choreography, especially since not all the troupe were dancers. We also got perhaps only half the troupe to come. I'm sure the whole troupe would have been quite overwhelming.
Sometimes you find a great topic when you're not even looking. I was looking for leather paints and went up the peninsula to the Tandy Leather shop. As the manager of the store rung up my purchase, I noticed she wore a shirt that said "Miss Rodeo USA," so I asked her about it.
Lucky for me, she had not only attended, but had been a competitor. I seized the opportunity to find out more about it by asking her to be a guest on the program. Some of her friends competed at various rodeo events, too. We had a great panel of guests.
